One Mile from City Centre, on the A650 Keighley Rd,
is Bradford’s Awarded winning- Lister Park,
home of F Li P- (Friends of Lister Park).
Bradford Council purchased Lister Park from Samuel Cunliffe
Lister on
28th October 1870 for the sum of £40,000, a figure £20,000 below
its valuation, on condition that it was used as a public park.
The park, formerly the site of Manningham Hall, home of the
Lister family, now contains Cartwright Hall, the city’s premier
Art Gallery and Museum, built between 1900 and 1904.
In May 1997, the Council was awarded a grant of £3.2 million
from the Heritage and Lottery Fund to restore, protect and enhance
the Park’s heritage value. The restoration work is now complete,
and new facilities include the restored botanical gardens and
Victorian lake, a new boating pavilion and café, statues, bandstand,
a children’s adventure playground and the new Mughal Gardens.
Boat hire is available between April and October.
